Ponti Design Studio is a product and industrial design firm based in Hong Kong. Founded in 2013 by Italian designer Andrea Ponti and Japanese design consultant Shiori Kuroiwa, the firm designs high-end, sophisticated technology products for numerous international brands, small and medium-sized companies and startups in Asia, North America and Europe. Ponti Design Studio has a universal approach to design, spanning across cultures and practices. Its broad product range includes transport and urban mobility, robotics and medical equipment, electronics, audio and wearables, travel accessories, furniture and household items. The firm also offers a variety of complementary services, such as product research, branding, UX/UI and packaging design.
Ponti Design Studio is located in the vibrant and informal area of Sheung Wan, close to the Central financial district, and over time has established an extensive network of partnerships across Asia. Hong Kong is a key player in the Greater Bay Area, a highly industrialized, densely populated area in Southern China with 70 million people, nine cities and two special administrative regions (Hong Kong and Macao). This strategic location allows Ponti Design Studio to oversee the entire product development process from concept design to mechanical and electrical engineering, prototyping, and mass production.
Playpulse One
With remote working on the rise, our lifestyle has become even more sedentary. If we want to have a healthy body and a healthy mind, we need to exercise in ways that are engaging and entertaining. Playpulse One fully integrates exercise and fun. Created for Norwegian startup Playpulse, it is a gaming bike designed to turn workouts into an entertainment experience by combining sports hardware with gaming interfaces. Playpulse One provides a new and exciting workout experience at home for every user. Striving for more wins, users burn calories while having fun. Playpulse One won the Red Dot Award, Product Design 2021.
Matrix Powerwatch
Matrix PowerWatch is a groundbreaking smartwatch that employs low power electronics and runs exclusively off heat generated from the body, with no need for replaceable batteries or external power sources. The design of this technological timepiece is inspired by dualism: its shape and structure enhance its thermoelectric engineering and nano-materials. In these energy-conscious times, Matrix PowerWatch is a symbol of a revolution where energy-smart products are designed around individuals: it shows the way to real eco-sustainable development. Matrix PowerWatch won the 2017 iF Design Award and the 2017 Good Design Award.
Island
Island is a double-decker driverless tram designed for the city of Hong Kong in the post-Covid era. The name Island references the innovative design of the interiors, where large circular benches facilitate social distancing and passengers sit facing outwards in a radial pattern. The exterior design is inspired by the Hong Kong urban landscape, which features vast surfaces of glass and rounded-corner buildings. Natural light floods the interiors during the day through the curved windows and a domed top, which also provide awe-inspiring views at night. Island won the 2020 GIDA Future Star Award.
